As a belated Christmas present for my parents we took a trip on the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz.
This is something that everyone should do if they get a chance as it really is spectacular. Everything about it is class, from the welcome onto the train to the three course lunch to the scenery en route. Unfortunately St Moritz itself didn’t live up to the hype, as the town wasn’t particularly attractive and it was very quiet, being just after the end of the ski season.
We stayed in Tasch the night before, headed up to Zermatt in the morning and arrived in St Moritz that evening about 6pm. We ate in the hotel restaurant and then walked around the lake in St Moritz which was beautiful. We went to the spa in St Mortiz Dorf, almost an added on part of town to cater for tourists and local workers, full of high rise buildings at the opposite end of the lake to the old town. The spa was beautiful and warm, just what was needed on a cold day. The following day we took the train to Zürich and spent a few hours walking around the town and finally headed home in the evening, completing a whirlwind cross country trip in a couple of days albeit sitting down and watching the world go by.
A great experience and thoroughly recommended.
